Ensuring the Right to Vote - during an unprecedented public health crisis

The Challenge: COVID-19 altered the way the US approached voting. With the public health threat looming, many Americans did not feel safe voting on election day. Still, they may not have known other options available to them. As a result, there was the risk of diminished turnout and disenfranchisement of voters.

Vote.org & Open Progress worked together to target & reach out to over a million voters in PA, WI, MI, FL, AZ, and NC about signing up to vote by mail and helping folks request their mail-ballots and another million voters in FL, GA, MS, LA, & AL about early voting.

The Result:

The outreach was targeted towards voters with the highest barriers to voting: young voters, voters of color, recently moved voters. This outreach led to increased turnout as compared to 2016, especially in Michigan (8.7%), Georgia (9.1%), and Arizona (11.9%)
