FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OPEN PROGRESS CONTINUES TO HELP ALABAMIANS DESPITE THE ALABAMA SECRETARY OF STATE'S RECKLESS COMMENTS

Open Progress is aware of the Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill’s statement that Open Progress has distributed messages telling eligible voters that they are not registered to vote.  These statements are false and reckless, and risk causing more confusion than the Secretary of State’s office has already caused by placing hundreds of thousands of voters on “inactive” status.

Open Progress has sent the Secretary the following letter setting the record straight.  What it is important for Alabama Voters to know is that they still have time – up until 11:59pm tonight – to register to vote or update their voter registration online on the Secretary of State’s website.  Voters can contact Open Progress by sending an email to [email protected] to have a one-on-one conversation with a real person to answer questions about the registration process.  We have volunteers standing by up until tonight’s deadline.  Voters who are eligible also have until December 7 to request an absentee ballot, and all other voters should make sure they have a plan to vote in the special election on Tuesday, December 12.  Polls will be open from 7am to 7pm on Election Day.
