About Opro by Open Progress:

Opro by Open Progress is a new progressive digital agency that was formed in the wake of Trump’s election.  We are owned by the 501 c(4) non-profit, Open Progress. In 2017 we were active in more than 90 races and ballot initiatives across 17 states ranging from US Senate (AL) to County Coroner (PA). We’re going to have even more impact in 2018, with your help.

We are building out our inaugural team to deploy unique, digital-first campaigns at the federal, state, and local levels. We are seeking a skilled social media strategist who knows how to use digital tools to reach unique audiences via paid and earned social media and who isn’t afraid of creating new techniques and driving innovation.

Position Summary:

Opro by Open Progress is seeking a full-time Social Media Strategist to join our team.  This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the continental U.S. Occasional travel (~3x per year is expected). The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience in digital marketing, with a focus on managing and developing content for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This position is full-time and salaried. It includes health care coverage.


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop social media content for various political clients

  • Manage editorial calendars for various clients

  • Analyze various social media programs for our clients and report results back to them in a professional and timely manner

  • Mentor part-time and volunteer social media associates

  • Interact directly with the client to establish goals and build successful programs

  • Work with clients to ensure social media works hand-in-hand with other aspects of their digital and field programs

  • Draft rapid response social media copy

  • Fact check content before it goes out to client social media channels

  • Ensure all of our content is rooted in the voice of the client

  • Brainstorm creative ideas for our clients

  • Help develop a collaborative work culture and peer review colleagues work

  • Perform other duties as needed


REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years working in social media and/or digital engagement 

  • Proven interest in and strong working knowledge of social media best practices and platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram

  • Extensive knowledge of political issues and a passion for electing progressive candidates and advancing the movement

  • Proven ability to conduct and analyze data

  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel)

  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines

  • Support for progressive values and commitment to building a safe and diverse workplace where people from all walks of life can contribute and advance the movement

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field

The following experience would be beneficial, but not required:

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Video editing experience

  • Graphic design experience
